I'm very happy with the way these three bowls turned out. I am amazed how the red glaze is really RED!!! The inside and rim is nice and smooth and rich, while the outside is rough and rustic. I love it! So these are a keeper, while all the other bowls are going to the charity sale.

These are beautiful! Are you firing to ^6 oxidation? How'd you glaze?
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
@ Judy: these are high fired. the glaze is a copper red that our studio mixes; i'm not sure about the formula, if that's what you wanted to know.
ReplyDeleteHey Mel - that's what I wanted to know - this is ^10 gas reduction, right. No matter - they turned out fabulous!
ReplyDeleteexactly, that's what I meant to write :)
ReplyDeleteThose turned out great, Mel! Nice contrast between the deep glossy red and the rough outside. Iron oxide in the writing?
ReplyDelete@ Jerry: thanks! and yeah, it's iron oxide! I LOVE the effects of Iron Oxide :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a little hooked on iron oxide these days. I had used it a fair amount when I was able to fire ^10 reduction. Now that I am firing ^6 electric, I am finding it a really nice finish as well.
ReplyDeletebeautiful bowls. I love the way they look!! :)I need to try leaving some clay unglazed like this on projects to see what happens sometime...
